Built on the ruins of St Mary's Church, the cellar still has the body chute, as the cellar was once the mortuary to the church. The small park next door was the graveyard attached to the church and the tombstones remain lined up against the wall. On the other side is an ancient Roman burial site. The pub could be said to be in the "dead centre" of Canterbury and is reportedly haunted.
Children, families and dogs are most welcome
Wholesome home-cooked is offered lunchtimes and evenings and traditional cask conditioned ales and high quality pouring wines are available.
