The Regency Tavern in Brighton dates back to 1700 when part of the pub operated as a toll, where people could pay a halfpenny to promenade around Regency Square. It is one of two pubs still standing in Brighton that applied for the original 'Beer Shop Licence' in 1830. This flamboyant Shepherd Neame pub is strewn with cherubs, gilt mirrors & drapes not dissimilar to the Royal Pavilion.
The Regency Tavern is said to be haunted by two ghosts. One is the notorious 'Grey Lady'; a former landlady of the pub and the other is a young girl who was the daughter of a cobbler, who fell from one of the first floor rooms.
The Regency Tavern is open all day and serves traditional pub food and daily specials at lunchtimes, alongside Shepherd Neame's award winning beers and fine wines from around the world.
Close to Brighton's beach, with car parking and the city centre only a short walk away, The Regency Tavern is well worth a visit.
