Julian Dowle's award-winning 2005 Chelsea Flower Show garden, a nostalgic vision of wartime Blighty is now to be enjoyed at The New Flying Horse. The Ecover Chelsea Pensioners' Garden entitled 'A Soldier's Dream of Blighty' was best show garden at Chelsea in 2005.
The original garden set in 1945, the garden was designed to commemorate the 60th anniversary of the end of World War II. Chelsea pensioners contributed their own ideas to the garden
The vegetable production for the garden has been grown entirely by the Royal Hospital Chelsea, where pensioners worked from a 1939 seed catalogue. Runner beans, Savoy cabbages, carrots and lettuces have been grown and transported to the New Flying Horse.
Quintessentially English plants such as poppies, rhubarb, climbing roses, wisteria and three 4m oak trees create a cottage garden feel.
The cottage-style pub within the garden has traditional thatching by Brandon Thatchers. Special accommodation packages are available for groups and the pub will offer afternoon teas in the garden over the summer months.
The New Flying Horse now has Wireless Broadband Internet Connectivity.
