MANOR FARM BARN, SOUTHFLEET

Britain's first 21st century thatched pub. Manor Farm Barn, an 18th century eight-bay barn believed to have been built around the time of Culloden (1746), has been transformed by Shepherd Neame, who completed the £1 million development in 2001. It was the first time the barn had been thatched since World War II and the oak timbers in the framework were painstakingly restored. The pub's dramatic high-ceiling interior benefits from relaxed contemporary furnishings and lighting with traditional finishes - the fibre-optic chandelier is well worth a second glance! The restaurant and bar offer excellent meals and snacks - using local produce whenever possible - with a wide choice of dishes and a daily bar menu. Shepherd Neame's Kentish ales are on offer in the bar together with an expert selection of wines from around the world. There is a landscaped garden and car parking.
