The Lock and Barrel"Frinton-on-Sea is sedate, with no pubs…" wrote the AA Book of British Towns in 1982. That was before Shepherd Neame opened the Lock & Barrel in September 2000 - the first pub in the town's history. The Lock & Barrel is on Connaught Avenue, "the Bond Street of the East Coast", on a site formerly occupied by ironmongers Blowers & Cooper, the town's oldest family business when the shop closed in 1996.As a tribute to the pub's history, the Lock & Barrel was officially opened by consumate cricket commentator Henry Blofeld, known world-wide as "Blowers" by listeners to Radio 4's Test Match Special. The coastal hamlet of Frinton-on-Sea was developed as a seaside resort at the end of the 19th century and has preserved an air of Victorian gentility.

Shepherd Neame has retained many of the original features including the shop front. The pub has a very good menu and wine list. Well worth a visit, whether it be for lunch, dinner, meeting friends or reading the paper - our team behind the bar will make you very welcome.

The Lock and Barrel now has Wireless Broadband Internet Connectivity.
