frontA warm welcome awaits you at the Flying Horse. This charming pub is set in the picturesque village of Smarden. With a roaring log fire in the winter and a patio garden to the front for those warmer days. The Flying Horse is open lunchtimes and evenings Monday to Thursday and all day Friday, Saturday and Sunday.

Food is served 12.00 - 2.00pm amd 6.00 - 9.00pm Tuesday to Saturday and 12.00 - 4.00pm on Sunday. The food is traditional favourites, using local produce where possible, including 10oz Sirloin Steak £10.95 and Lamb's Liver & Bacon £6.75. On Thursday evenings there is a well established Curry night.

The Flying Horse is said to be named "flyer" after the now defunct race course. It is set just in front of St. Michael's church of the Archangel, which is 800 years old and nicknamed the barn of Kent, because of its unusually broad scissor-beamed roof, unsupported by pillars.

Smarden is a beautiful village. More than 100 of the houses and buildings in Smarden are officially listed as being of architectural or historic interest.

Leeds and Bodiam Castles, Sissinghurst Castle Gardens, Great Dixter Gardens, Godinton House Gardens, Biddenden Vineyard, Headcorn Air Museum, The Kent & East Sussex Steam Train, several woodland walks and the new Kino Digital Cinema are all within easy reach of Smarden.

Smarden has been named Kent Village of the year for 2007/2008

The Flying Horse has Sky Sports, and uses a big screen on major games.
