The Clarendon Inn was built about 180 years ago, and was originally a private house, became a pub circa 1872. Situated 200 yards up a steep footpath (Brewer's Hill) just off the coast road between Folkestone and Hythe. This used to be the route from the beach (where supplies were landed) to Shorncliff Camp, site of the First Light Infantry Training Establishment at the end of the 18th century.
A seaside pub with lovely views out across the channel, France can sometimes be seen. There are two attractive bars and a small restaurant serving excellent home-made meals as well as bar snacks. The bars decorated with many local views, period advertising and a collection of miniture inn signs.
A fine selection of Shepherd Neame's ales and lagers are available. Well known for the cask ales. 1999 Good Beer Guide and Good Pub Guide.
Pub known for indoor board games including, Backgammon, Cribbage, Shove H'a Penny, Chess and Draughts.
