The Bell at Smarden was built during the reign of Henry VIII in 1536. The Bell has seen and undergone many changes since it was built but its historic atmosphere remains unchanged with large open fires and home cooked foods.
The pub is open lunchtimes and evenings from Monday to Thursday and it is open all day from Friday to Sunday.
Traditional home cooked pub food is available lunchtimes and an a la carte menu is also served in the evenings with chicken breast served with roasted garlic and parmesan potatoes and a mushroom and tarragon sauce being typical of the interesting dishes on offer.
Shepherd Neame's fine ales are served or you can enjoy a glass of wine from the extensive wine list.
The pub benefits from having a beautiful garden and pig roasts and barbecues are often held during the summer months.
With Leeds Castle, Sissinghurst Castle, Headcorn airfield, Biddenden vineyards and Tenterden steam rail station close by, the Bell at Smarden is well worth a visit.
