Walnut Tree

Walnut Tree

A gloriously traditional country pub in a village location, only two miles from the county town of Maidstone, the Walnut Tree dates back to 1528.  It has won many awards and is mentioned in both The Good Pub Guide and The Good Beer Guide.

The pub is said to be haunted by the genial ghosts of hop-pickers who were regulars in the heyday of Kentish hop farming. The huge walnut tree, after which the pub is named, still thrives and its crop is used as a bar snack and pickled for use in the restaurant. Inside many original features remain including a number of oak beams and a large inglenook fireplace.

The restaurant offers traditional home-cooked meals, using herbs from the pub garden and locally sourced produce, and the chef also specialises in exotic curries. In addition pub lunches are available and free bar snacks are laid on most evenings.

Families are very welcome and there is a secluded and beautifully landscaped garden with a safe children's area, until 9pm.
