The Granville is now run by Gabrielle Harris, whose brothers also operate the highly successful Sportsman at Seasalter. The food at the Granville is outstanding and this pub is well worth a visit.
The Granville takes its name from a Tudor warship and stands close to the ancient village of Lower Hardres, just a five minute drive from Canterbury city centre. The village name is derived from the Saxon word meaning 'flinty' and is a reference to the local soil.
Originally the village was called 'Hardes' but it acquired the 'r' because of some (long forgotten) association with the French town of 'Ardres'. Situated on the B2068, the Granville is a lovely old English country pub which has long enjoyed a reputation for excellent food complemented by the full range of Shepherd Neame beers and an imaginative wine list.
Large beer garden and ample car parking.
