Visitors to his year's Rye Bay Scallop Festival can wash down the town's signature seafood with a limited edition stout made with scallops as a key ingredient.

Original Rye Scallop Stout has been created by Kent brewer Shepherd Neame to celebrate the sixth Rye Bay Scallop Festival from 15 to 24 February.

Brewer Stewart Main said: "This full bodied traditional stout, brewed with black rye and crystal malt, gives a rich blend of dark chocolate and roasted coffee on the palate. Then the classic bitterness from generous quantities of East Kent Goldings hops takes over, tantalising the taste buds.

"Fresh scallops from Rye are added to the copper in the brewing process, lending a delicate, gamey flavour to the beer. It is a beer for Rye, and with rye, from Britain's oldest brewer."

The limited edition 3.7 abv Original Rye Scallop Stout, specially made in Shepherd Neame's pilot brewery, will even boast unique pump clips in the shape of scallop shells.

Cask-conditioned Original Rye Scallop Stout will be available in a limited number of Shepherd Neame pubs and freehouses in the Rye area during the festival.
